Birds and wildlife of Thailand
From misty northern mountains to tropical forests and coastal wetlands, Thailand offers rich birding, memorable wildlife and warm hospitality.
In the northern highlands, forests and mountain slopes provide opportunities to look for special birds such as Mrs Hume’s Pheasant, colourful sunbirds and a variety of laughingthrushes. Doi Inthanon and other upland sites offer a rewarding mix of habitats, while winter brings visiting birds from further north.
Further south, the extensive forests of Kaeng Krachan are celebrated for hornbills, broadbills and other rainforest birds. Wetlands and coastal sites provide a different experience, with herons, kingfishers and migratory shorebirds. Thailand’s forests also shelter gibbons, elephants and many other mammals, although encounters depend on the location, season and a measure of luck.
Whether you are after a carefully chosen list of target species, time in a photography hide, or a journey that combines wildlife with Thailand’s food and culture, we can shape an itinerary with experienced local guides. Sightings and access vary, so we plan each journey around the season and conditions.
