Explore the forested foothills and mountain landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh on a 12-day birding journey from Guwahati. The route takes you through Tenga, Lama Camp, Bomphu, Dirang, Mandala, Tawang and Sangti.
This is a journey through changing elevations and habitats, with repeated time in the forests around Bomphu and opportunities to explore the cultural setting of Tawang. Your guide will help shape daily priorities around seasonal conditions, access and your target birds.

YOUR TIME IN THE FIELD
The itinerary.
Day 1Guwahati to Tenga
Meet the team in Guwahati and travel towards Tenga. Begin looking for birds at suitable stops along the route as the landscape rises towards the Himalayan foothills.
Day 2Tenga to Lama Camp
Continue to Lama Camp, with birding along the approach. Explore the forest with your guide, listening for mixed flocks and making the most of productive roadside and trail sections.
Day 3Into the forests around Bomphu
Travel from Tenga towards Bomphu, devoting time to forest birding along the way. Look for birds across changing forest elevations and settle into the camp area.
Day 4Bomphu forest exploration
Spend the day birding around Bomphu. Allow time to follow calls, watch mixed flocks and revisit promising areas for a closer look or a photograph.
Day 5A second day around Bomphu
Use a further full day to explore the forests and revisit target species. Your guide will respond to weather and activity to choose the most productive areas.
Day 6Bomphu to Dirang
Leave the camp area and travel towards Dirang, with birding stops along the route. Watch for changes in the bird community as the habitats and elevation shift.
Day 7Mandala birding
Explore the Mandala area from Dirang, searching its mountain forests with your guide. Return to Dirang after a day focused on the birds and habitats of this part of the route.
Day 8Dirang to Tawang
Travel towards Tawang through dramatic mountain scenery. Stop for birding where access and conditions permit, allowing time for the higher-elevation journey.
Day 9Tawang and Anni Gompa
Visit Anni Gompa and explore birding opportunities around Tawang. Combine time in the mountain landscape with an introduction to the area’s Buddhist heritage.
Day 10Return to Dirang
Travel back towards Dirang, looking for birds at suitable stops. The return journey provides another opportunity to search habitats passed on the outward route.
Day 11Explore Sangti
Visit the Sangti area for a further day of birding. Seasonal conditions will guide the search, and your guide will advise which species are realistic targets for your dates.
Day 12Dirang to Guwahati Airport
Return to Guwahati for your onward journey. Flight timing and the final transfer will be agreed as part of your confirmed programme.
